
A comprehensive course consisting of: classroom (didactic), 88 hrs.; skills lab, 32 hrs; clinical (hospital observation), 8 hrs; and field (ambulance ride-along), 12 hrs. The curriculum is based on the NREMT and 1995 U.S. DOT guidelines for EMT training, and Title 22 for the State of California.
EMT-Basic classes are open to the public.
Our accelerated classes are taught by working, seasoned, Paramedics who bring a taste of the field into the classroom by sharing their real life experiences.
- An 8 week, accelerated format class meets Monday through Thursday mornings, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
- An 8 week, accelerated format class meets Monday through Thursday evenings, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- The day and evening classes are staggered every other month, e.g., March, day class; April, evening class.
- In the event that a class does not meet the minimum class size requirements, those students will be given the option to enroll in the following month's class.
Minimum Class size for both classes is 15 students.
Maximum Class size for both classes is 30 students.

Admission Prerequisites:

Students must be 18 years of age or older
Students must posses U.S. Citizenship or equivalent I. D. and a Social Security Number
Students must provide a copy of their High School Diploma, Certificate of Completion or GED
Provide a copy of a current American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer CPR card, or equivalent CPR card. Please contact us if you need help obtaining a current card.
Provide a copy of a valid Driver’s License, State issued Identification Card or other Government issued Photographic Identification
Successful completion of the Wonderlic SLE with a passing score of 15. If the student has taken a Risk to Benefit Test at another institution and the score is at or above the national accepted passing score, they may supply proof of that score in lieu of sitting for the exam at EMSTA College

UPON ACCEPTANCE INTO A EMT-B TRAINING CLASS, THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS ARE DUE AT ENROLLMENT:
Successfull completion of the application process.
Required Inoculations:
- Annual tuberculosis screening: Mantoux tuberculosis test or if positive, Health Departments guidelines for follow up.
- Positive titer to MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or vaccination against same or a physician’s statement of disease concerning MMR.
- Varicella immunity
(chicken pox).
- Immunizations: Tetanus immunization within the past 5 years.
- Vaccine/immunity Hepatitis B is recommended.
Copy of current medical insurance coverage (policy or wallet card). Students must maintain medical insurance throughout the EMT-B training class. Low cost short-term coverage is available on line at www.ehealthinsurance.com. |
Students who successfully pass the course and Skills Testing will be eligible to take the NREMT Certification Exam. Upon completion and successfully passing the Certification Exam, students will be issued an EMT-B certification card by the appropriate certifying agency.
Our courses have been approved by the California State EMSA, San Diego County LEMSA, the California Office of State Fire Marshal, and the NREMT.
